Learn more about what we do
Our team is fun, creative, and dedicated to making a difference every day in the lives of the individuals we serve. The heart of what we do is support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities of all ages, caring when others cannot.
We welcome volunteers looking to satisfy court ordered community service requirements as long as the alleged offense is not listed on our Affidavit of Good Moral Character. Due to limitations of staff, we cannot agree to communicate with probation officers, and we cannot appear at court hearings. We do, however, provide documentation of hours served and will sign paperwork authorizing hours and service.
Reception and Administration
Reception desk volunteers serve as an immediate representation of Michael Hearts Academy by being the first face that both residents and visitors see. Duties include answering phones, and volunteers to their destinations, and overseeing the mail delivery system. Administrative volunteers may assist staff members by organizing, filing and shredding documents, typing, or other duties.
Group Volunteers
Engage your team in a meaningful volunteer experience while making a positive impact in our community. The Camp will customize a project based on your availability, interests, and group size. Opportunities include holiday parties and special events, recreational and arts/crafts activities, beautification projects, and skill-based workshops.
Internship
There are many internship opportunities at Michael Hearts Academy, in various departments: Administration, Campers, Non- Profit Management, Social Services, and more. Internships are to be coordinated well in advance to semester start, so please reach out early!
Teaching Sessions
Volunteers direct small group sessions or educational presentations on various topics including music, dance, crafts, cooking and nutrition, finances, etc. If you have a skill or knowledge base that you would like to share, please inform the Volunteer Coordinator.
Hearts Club
Hearts club is a social club hosted on Friday nights, at the Rosemont Neighborhood Community Center. The lights go down, the music turns up, and the party starts! Volunteers help with running the club registration, serving food, and engaging with party goers. We Still need sponsors. If you interested email mjhearts19@gmail.com.
